Lesson Content

1. Introduction to Formatting

Formatting makes documents clear, neat, and professional. In MS Word, formatting helps improve readability and presentation.

2. Font Formatting

You can change:

  • Font type (e.g., Arial, Times New Roman)
  • Font size (bigger or smaller text)
  • Font style (Bold, Italic, Underline)
  • Font color
Shortcuts:
Ctrl + B = Bold
Ctrl + I = Italic
Ctrl + U = Underline

3. Paragraph Alignment

  • Left alignment (default)
  • Center alignment (used for titles)
  • Right alignment
  • Justify alignment (even spacing on both sides)

4. Line Spacing and Paragraph Spacing

Controls the space between lines of text and helps make documents easier to read.

Common settings: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0

5. Headers and Footers

Header: Appears at the top of every page (e.g., title, name)

Footer: Appears at the bottom (e.g., page numbers)

6. Bullets and Numbering

Used to create lists:

  • Bullets → unordered lists
  • Numbering → step-by-step lists

Example:

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Oranges

7. Page Layout Tools

Found in the Layout tab:

  • Margins (space around page text)
  • Orientation (Portrait or Landscape)
  • Page size

8. Format Painter

This tool copies formatting from one text and applies it to another.
